Sophomores Brooke McKay (Carmel, Ind.) and Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio), along with junior Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.), have been selected the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s athletes of the week in their respective sports.
The honors mark the second consecutive week that McKay and Justus have earned the league’s weekly tribute.
McKay captured medalist honors at DePauw University’s Small College Classic Sept. 22-23. Trailing by two shots after the first round, she posted a two-round total of 159 (80-79) to win by two strokes and earn her first collegiate title and ninth top-five finish.
Hanover placed third among 11 teams in the tournament field behind DePauw (662) and Wittenberg University (669).
A defensive specialist, Justus averaged 6.78 digs per set to help Hanover’s volleyball team post a 4-1 record last week.
Justus totaled 122 digs in five matches, including 14 digs to help the Panthers defeat Earlham College, 3-0, to open HCAC play, Sept. 19.
She followed with 108 digs in four matches as Hanover (10-8) finished the Heartland Conference-Ohio Athletic Conference Challenge with a 3-1 record. She had 36 digs in a four-set win against Baldwin-Wallace University (Ohio) and added 33 in a four-set win against Muskingum University (Ohio) to close the event.
Walsh tallied her first collegiate hat trick to receive her first career player-of-the-week honor.
Walsh scored three times to lead Hanover’s women’s soccer squad to a 7-0 win against Spalding University (Ky.), Sept. 22. The effort pushed her team-leading total to five goals this season.
The Panthers, 6-2 overall, were 1-1 during the week, including a 1-0 double-overtime loss at unbeaten Thomas More College (Ky.), Sept. 19.
