Hanover College’s volleyball squad snagged two quick victories, but eventually fell in five sets to Transylvania University (Ky.). The Panthers’ Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home-opener was played Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Collier Arena.
Hanover sprinted past the Pioneers 25-12 in the first set and rallied for a 25-23 victory in the second set. Transylvania, however, reeled off wins in the closing three sets, 25-17, 25-19, 15-9 to claim the triumph.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Quebe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior outside hitter Megan Keller (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted 14 kills apiece to lead Hanover’s attack. Freshman middle hitter Maggie Huffer (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 13 kills.
Junior setter Kelsey Wagner (Taylor Mill, Ky.) had 25 assists, while freshman Alli Deaton (Lexington, Ky.) added 16.
Junior return specialist Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.) tallied a match-high 34 digs and senior outside hitter Ashleigh Burakiewicz (Greenwood, Ind.) had 22.
The loss bumped Hanover to 11-9 overall and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference.
Transylvania raised its mark to 8-10 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC.
