The Hanover College volleyball squad fell in four sets to visiting Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match was played Saturday, Oct. 6, in Collier Arena.
Hanover opened with a win in the first set before Rose-Hulman rallied to take the match, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 26-24.
Despite 26 kills between three players, the Panthers were unable to put away the Engineers.
Senior outside hitter Ashleigh Burakiewicz (Greenwood, Ind.) totaled seven kills and 16 digs to pace Hanover’s attack. Classmate Sarah Quebe (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the team with 11 kills and also added one block and one block assist.
Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Merritt (Indianapolis, Ind.) added eight kills in addition to three digs.
Freshman setter Alli Deaton (Lexington, Ky.) and junior Kelsey Wagner (Taylor Mill, Ky.) combined for 38 assists. Deaton tallied a team-best 21 assists and Wagner added 17.
Junior Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.) anchored the defense with 20 digs.
The loss drops Hanover's record to 12-12 overall and 2-3 in the league. Rose-Hulman moves to 13-7 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC.
