Five different players scored to help propel Hanover College’s women’s soccer team to a 5-0 victory against Anderson University. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match was played Sunday, Oct. 7, in Anderson, Ind.
Hanover combined a potent offensive attack and smothering defense to pick up its 10th win of the season. The Panthers outshot Anderson by a 44-1 margin and did not allow the Ravens an attempt at the net in the closing 50 minutes of action.
Junior midfielder Paige Byers (Noblesville, Ind.) tallied her first goal of the season and also added an assist to spark Hanover to its fifth consecutive victory.
Senior forwards Jennie Dumaine (California, Ky.) and Kelly McRoberts (Louisville, Ky.), along with sophomore midfielder Erin Hancock (Amelia, Ohio) and sophomore forward Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio), each scored goals for the Panthers (10-2; 3-0 HCAC).
Dumaine scored in the 11th minute off an assist from Byers. Hancock added an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute to give Hanover a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
Senior goalie Bethann Hancock (Lexington, Ky.) recorded a save near the 40th minute on Anderson’s only shot in the contest.
Byers hit the back of the net just 67 seconds into the second period to push the Panthers’ lead to 3-0.
Walsh, fed by freshman forward Anne-Spicer Adams (Midway, Ky.), scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 73rd minute to increase the margin to four goals.
McRoberts netted her first goal of the season in the 77th minute for the final margin.
The win marked Hanover’s fifth in a row against Anderson and gave the Panthers double-digit victories for the fourth consecutive season.
The Ravens fell to 0-12 overall and 0-3 in the Heartland Conference with the setback.
