The Hanover College athletic department will continue its campus-wide shoe drive, Saturday, Oct. 20, during the Panthers’ football, women’s soccer and men’s soccer games.
Spearheaded by Hanover’s track & field program, the department is teaming with Indianapolis, Ind.-based organization Changing Footprints to collect new and used shoes during Hanover’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football game against Defiance College (Ohio) at L.S. Ayres Field.
Shoes will also be collected that day at women’s and men’s HCAC soccer matches against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Spectators are encouraged to donate shoes in any condition. Collected shoes will be distributed to disaster-stricken, homeless and under-privileged people locally, nationally and internationally. Shoes unsuitable to wear will be recycled for playground materials.
The football game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. The women’s soccer match will begin at 2 p.m. and the men’s contest will follow at approximately 4 p.m.
Hanover’s track & field teams will continue to coordinate the shoe drive throughout the remainder of the academic year at select athletic events.
