Junior Ajani Jones (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) and senior Marcus El (Indianapolis, Ind.) have been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s athletes of the week in football and golf, respectively.
An interior lineman, Jones was named the HCAC’s defensive player of the week after helping power Hanover to a 40-13 victory against Bluffton University (Ohio) last weekend.
Jones racked up a career-high eight tackles with three tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass deflection.
This season, he has 29 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Hanover is riding a four-game winning streak. The Panthers, now 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the league, will host Defiance College (Ohio), Saturday, Oct. 20, at L.S. Ayres Field.
El was named the Heartland Conference’s men’s golfer of the week after leading Hanover to a second-place finish at DePauw University’s Small College Classic, Oct. 13-14.
He posted a two-day total of 150 (77-73) to place fifth among 61 athletes in the 36-hole tournament and finished just four strokes behind the medalist.
The effort marked El’s third top-10 finish during the Panthers’ fall season.
Hanover returns to the links February 23-28 for the squad’s winter-break trip to Destin, Fla.
