Passafiume to play for U.S. all stars

Record-setting wide receiver Daniel Passafiume (Louisville, Ky.) has been selected to play for Team Stars & Stripes in the 2012 Tazon de Estrellas.

The 15th-annual "Bowl of Stars," featuring all-star teams from NCAA III and CONADEIP, Mexico’s top collegiate athletic conference, will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at La Fortaleza Azul (The Blue Fortress) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Passafiume, a senior, is a four-time all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection. He capped his career as the fifth-leading receiver in NCAA history (all-divisions) with 344 catches.

He also ranks as Hanover’s career leader with 3,485 receiving yards and 39 receiving touchdowns and, in addition, ranks second in school history with 257 career points.

During the 2012 season, Passafiume led the Heartland Conference in receptions and ranked second in the HCAC in receiving yards per game. He finished with 90 catches for 915 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He also scored one rushing touchdown and had an 89-yard kick return for a score against Anderson University.

Don DeWaard will serve as head coach of the U.S. squad's 44-player roster. DeWaard is the defensive coordinator at Central College (Iowa).

The CONADEIP all-stars defeated Team Stars & Stripes, 45-27, in last season's Tazon de Estrellas in Puebla, Mexico. The U.S. team included former Hanover standouts Rory Mannering and Matt Robinette.
