Hanover College's women's track & field team has been selected to capture its second consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor championship.

Hanover, under second-year head coach Brian Power, earned 95 points in a preseason polling of the conference’s 10 coaches. The Panthers received first-place votes on nine of the 10 ballots.

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was second in the poll with 87 points, including one first-place vote. Franklin College was third with 80 points and Manchester University was fourth with 70.

Last season, Hanover captured the program's first HCAC indoor championship in dramatic fashion. The Panthers, despite winning just one event during the meet, was able to edge host Rose-Hulman, 129-128, for the title.

Hanover’s men’s squad was picked to place sixth in the Heartland Conference's championship this winter. The Panthers received 41 points in the coaches’ poll.

Rose-Hulman, with 100 points and all 10 first-place votes, was selected to repeat as league champions. Defiance College (Ohio) was second with 89 points and Manchester landed third with 76.

Hanover’s men’s and women’s squads open the indoor season Friday, Jan. 18, in Rose-Hulman’s Friday Night Invitational. The meet will start at 5:45 p.m. in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Heartland Conference championships are slated for Saturday, Feb. 16, in Defiance, Ohio.
