Hanover College’s softball team opened its 2013 campaign with a 5-0 loss to the Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.). The contest was played Sunday, Feb. 24, in Clermont, Fla.
Sophomore pitcher Leah Kemmerer (North Vernon, Ind.) limited Rochester to just six hits with eight strikeouts, but the Tigers combined the hits with two errors to push five runs across the plate.
Freshman leftfielder Lyndsea Burke (Modoc, Ind.) lead the Panthers offense with two base hits. Kemmerer, sophomore shortstop Abby Murphy (Richmond, Ind.) and sophomore second baseman Dani Merrick (Eminence, Ind.) each had a double.
Rochester’s Sarah Wolcott led off the game with a triple and scored on a base hit by Kelly Meegan, who later scored on an error to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Rochester (1-0) added runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings for the final tally.
