Sophomore attacker Matt Weber (Centerville, Ohio) and junior midfielder Derek Coe (Lake Orion, Mich.) combined for two goals, but Hanover College’s men’s lacrosse team fell at Centre College (Ky.), 12-2, in a non-conference match Saturday, March 2, in Danville, Ky.
Centre established a 6-1 lead by halftime and pulled away in the second half. The Colonels (1-0) outshot Hanover by a 46-24 margin, including 27 shots on goal, and converted 33-of-35 clears in the contest.
Centre scored four goals in the opening frame before Coe fed Weber for a goal with 2:35 left in the quarter.
The Colonels led 7-1 in the third period when Weber, again off an assist from Coe, scored to trim the deficit to 7-1 with 4:21 to go in the stanza.
Centre, however, reeled off three goals in the final 2:18 of the quarter to push the advantage to 10-2 and added two early in the fourth period for the final margin.
Weber fired seven shots, sophomore midfielder Luke Karnick (Indianapolis, Ind.) had six and sophomore attacker Nick Hermes (Grayslake, Ill.) attempted four to lead Hanover’s offensive effort.
In addition to his two assists, Coe collected a match-high nine of the Panthers’ 29 ground balls.
Sophomore goaltender Addison Sears (Louisville, Ky.) posted 15 saves through 60 minutes in the net.
