Hanover College sophomore infielder Danielle Merrick (Eminence, Ind.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s softball player of the week.
Merrick, a shortstop, batted .857 to key two victories against Westminster College (Mo.), March 22. In the twinbill, she was 6-for-7 with two doubles. She also scored one run and knocked in another to spark the Panthers' offense.
This season, Merrick leads Hanover with a .417 batting average. She has a team-high 15 hits and also ranks first on the squad with five doubles.
The doubleheader sweep was the first for Hanover since April 8, 2011, when the Panthers posted 4-1 and 2-1 wins at Franklin College.
Hanover, now 3-9 overall, returns to the diamond Thursday, March 28, in a non-conference twinbill at Spalding University (Ky.).
