The Hanover College men’s tennis team dropped a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against Earlham College, 9-0. The league battle was played, Wednesday, April 10, indoors at the Dayton Center Courts in Dayton, Ohio.
With the setback, Hanover slipped to 3-11 overall and 3-3 in the HCAC.
Earlham, which swept all three doubles match and each of the six singles matches, notched its sixth straight win to improve to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Senior Devon Sharpe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Andrew Nice (Salem, Ind.) battled to the closest two-set losses in singles play.
Sharpe fell to Earlham’s Scott Lawrence, 6-4, 7-6 (5), at No. 5. Nice was defeated, 6-2, 6-3, by the Quakers’ Brent Kramer at No. 6.
Sharpe teamed with freshman Joshua Ruse (Indianapolis, Ind.) at No. 3 doubles. The duo lost to Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov, 8-4.
