Hanover College’s men’s tennis team improved to 4-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 9-0 victory against Bluffton University (Ohio). The Panthers and Beavers tangled, Saturday, April 13, at the Zeddies Tennis Center.
Hanover, now 4-11 overall, dropped just three games through the six singles matches and three doubles matches.
Seniors Steven Gilliam (Fishers, Ind.) and Devon Sharpe (Indianapolis, Ind.), along with sophomore Brian Clark (New Palestine, Ind.) and freshman Reid Clark (New Palestine, Ind.), each earned 6-0, 6-0, singles victories.
Gilliam defeated Bluffton’s A.J. Haley at No. 1. Brian Clark shut out Matt McCoy at No. 2. Reid Clark handled the Beaver’s Bruce Goetz at No. 3, while Sharpe blanked Bryce Hodge at No. 5.
Hanover claimed each of the three doubles matches by 8-0 scores.
The Clark brothers defeated Haley and McCoy at No. 1. Gilliam and freshman Andrew Nice (Salem, Ind.) posted a win in the No. 2 slot against Goetz and John Oyer. Sharpe teamed with freshman Joshua Ruse (Indianapolis, Ind.) to knock off John Eckenrode and Lucas Fullenkamp at No. 3.
With the setback, Bluffton fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Heartland Conference.
