Bader, El lead golfers at HCAC championship

Hanover College’s men’s golf team placed second at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship. The final round of the 72-hole tournament was played Sunday, May 5, at Rea Park Golf Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Junior Robert Bader (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Marcus El (Indianapolis, Ind.) each posted top-finishes to lead Hanover, which totaled 1,214 strokes (303-297-314-300).

The Panthers were 36 shots behind Transylvania University (Ky.), which captured the HCAC crown with a 1,178 (297-300-293-288).

A two-time all-league honoree, Bader fired a one-over 73 on the 6,482-yard course to close the tournament and finished second with a four-day total of 295 (75-72-75-73).

Bader, fifth in the 2012 HCAC tourney, was six strokes behind Transylvania’s Hunter Frazier, who captured medalist honors with a 289 (71-79-71-68), including a tournament-low round of 68 in the final round.

El, who earned all-conference honors for the second time in his career, was fifth among 39 athletes with a 298 (76-69-77-76) through four rounds.

Junior Terry Smith (Peru, Ind.) recorded a 12th-place finish and sophomore Matt Ehman (Noblesville, Ind.) was 16th for the Panthers.

Smith posted a 312 (76-81-78-77), while Ehman had a four-day total of 318 (76-77-84-81).

The College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) finished third in the team standings with a 1,224 (306-307-304-307). Franklin College was fourth with a 1,258 (318-323-314-303).
