The evolution of Hanover College’s outdoor athletic facilities took a major step with a ground-breaking for upgrades to its football stadium and with its baseball, soccer and softball facilities.
A ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the $6 million projects took place Saturday, May 11, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
More than 250 people attended the event, which featured comments from Hanover President Sue DeWine, Athletic Campaign Co-chairs Steve Smith and Mark Gabriel, Athletic Director Lynn Hall and two-sport student-athlete Devon Sharpe.
The endeavor includes a $4.5 million facelift for L.S. Ayres Field. The facility has been home to Hanover’s football program since 1972 and currently hosts events for the men’s lacrosse and track & field teams.
Slated for completion in the fall of 2014, the stadium will feature renovated seating for spectators, locker rooms, training rooms, media and social space, as well as offices for staff and officials, restrooms and a concession area.
The structural changes follow the installation of an all-weather artificial playing surface in 2008.
Hanover’s baseball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and softball facilities will receive $1.5 million in alterations.
Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2013, construction projects for each of these sports will include spectator seating, dugouts and team benches, scoreboards, media and staff space, restrooms and a concession area.
The $6 million renovations to Hanover’s stadium, baseball, soccer and softball fields, follow on the heels of the completion of the Zeddies Tennis Center. The eight-court facility became home to Hanover’s men’s and women’s tennis teams in 2012.
