Hanover College’s women’s cross country team placed seven runners in the top 14 and captured the team title at the Asbury University (Ky.) Chick-fil-A Invitational.
Hanover, with four athletes finishing among the top 10, totaled 31 points to hold off host Asbury (45 points). Brescia University (Ky.) was third with 65 points and Campbellsville University (Ky.) placed fourth with 87.
Junior Claire Hinshaw (New Castle, Ind.), freshman Cameron Trachtman (Carmel, Ind.) and sophomore Rachel Smith (Brownsburg, Ind.) each earned top-five finishes to lead the Panthers’ charge.
Hinshaw was third overall with a time of 21:05.9. Trachtman placed fourth in her first collegiate race in 21:13.0, while Smith was fifth out of 56 athletes in 21:15.7.
Junior Paige Woods (North Manchester, Ind.) covered the five-kilometer course in 21:37.3 to finish seventh. Sophomore Kaleigh DeBeck (Cromwell, Ind.) was 12th to round out Hanover’s scoring. DeBeck posted a time of 22:14.5.
Asbury freshman Katy Falkenberg was the individual champion in the event. She turned in a time of 20:35.3, holding her teammate, junior Justine Vonderheide, by 10 seconds (20:45.3).
