The Hanover College volleyball team split two matches in a weekend series, defeating Spalding University (Ky.), 25-18, 25-19, 25-3, and falling to Centre College (Ky.), 25-18, 16-25, 27-25, 30-28.
In the morning match versus Spalding, freshman Rachel Hasewinkel (Sheridan, Ind.) led the Panthers win nine kills and five digs. Senior defensive specialist Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.) collected 13 digs.
Sophomore Maddie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) added 10 digs and two service aces, while classmate Maggie Huffer (Indianapolis, Ind.) assisted on four blocks.
This loss drops Spalding to 4-1 on the year.
Hanover, now 3-4 on the season, pushed Centre to four sets in the afternoon matchup, but were unable to overcome a strong defensive effort. Hasewinkel continued her strong play with 17 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Rachel Regenaur (Peewee Valley, Ky.) also reached double digits with 11 kills, while assisting on three blocks.
Alli Deaton (Lexington, Ky.), a sophomore, tallied 26 assists with freshman Shelby Hart (Crestwood, Ky.) adding 19.
Justice tied Hartman for a match-high total of 20 digs.
Centre improves to 5-1 with the victory.
