Panthers stifled in setback at Wabash

Hanover College’s football squad lost to No. 20 Wabash College, 69-0, in the Panthers' first road game of the 2013 season.

Hanover (0-2) was limited to 45 offensive yards, picked up just five first downs, committed eight turnovers and allowed five sacks (for minus-46 yards) in the setback.

Wabash (1-0) grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first period, stretched the margin to 38-0 at the intermission and added 24 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Panthers gained 30 yards through the air and finished with 15 on the ground. The squad lost two fumbles and had six interceptions. Junior running back Spencer Corrao (New Albany, Ind.) accounted for two-thirds of Hanover's yardage, carrying the ball 13 times for 31 yards.

Freshman quarterback Adam Gutermuth (Whiteland, Ind.), making his first collegiate start, completed 10-of-18 passes for 30 yards. He was sacked four times and threw three interceptions.

Sophomore Wes Rittman (Clarksville, Ind.) relieved in the second half and was picked off on all three of his pass attempts.

Wabash rushed for 261 yards and four touchdowns. The Little Giants returned two interceptions for touchdowns and also recovered a blocked punt in the endzone for a score.

Senior linebacker Brandon Foster (Haubstadt, Ind.) recorded 11 tackles to spark Hanover's defensive unit, which surrendered 390 yards.

Junior defensive lineman John Holtkamp (Greenwood, Ind.) totaled nine tackles and added two solo tackles for loss and a pair of assists on negative-yardage plays.
