Junior Claire Hinshaw (New Castle, Ind.) led the Hanover College women’s cross country team to their highest finish in recent memory in the Little State division of the Indiana Intercollege meet. The Panthers finished sixth in the 18-team meet held at the Indiana University course in Bloomington, Ind.
Hinshaw covered the five-kilometer course in 20:11.47, in a meet that also featured eight NCAA Division I teams.
Freshman Cami Trachtman (Carmel, Ind.) ran a season-best 20:24.58 to finish 30th, while sophomore Rachel Smith (Brownsburg, Ind.) again ran third for the Panthers finishing nine spots behind Trachtman in 20:52.78.
Two underclass athletes both ran personal bests to round out the Hanover scoring. Freshman Mailika Stakes (Indianapolis, Ind.) ran 21:05.35, placing 46th. Sophomore Rachel Effinger (Versailles, Ky.) ran 21:28.42, placing 57th to earn her first points as a Panther.
The University of Indianapolis won the Little State meet with 44 points. Hanover scored 196. Indiana University won the Division I portion of the meet.
Sutton Knapp, a University of Indianapolis senior ran 18:37.78 to win the Little State Individual title, while Indiana University’s Kelsey Duerksen ran 17:28.14 to win the whole meet.
