Hanover College’s volleyball team split its first two matches in the Ohio Athletic Conference-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover. The two-day event is being played in Columbus, Ohio.
Hanover opened with a 25-23, 25-15, 26-24, victory against Baldwin-Wallace University (Ohio). The Panthers, now 5-8 overall, lost to Ohio Northern University, 25-17, 25-16, 17-25, 25-15, in the nightcap.
In the opener, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Regenauer (Peewee Valley, Ky.) racked up a match-high 12 kills and sophomore return specialist Nicole Blevins (McCordsville, Ind.) added seven to help the Panthers snap a three-match skid.
Defensive specialists Kylie Justus (Crawfordsville, Ind.) and Maddie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) combined for 35 digs. Justus, a senior, netted 20, while Hartman, a sophomore, had 15.
Hanover totaled 10 service aces in the match. Junior outside hitter Sarah Hasewinkel (Sheridan, Ind.) led the unit with a career-high four.
Junior setter Alli Deaton (Lexington, Ky.) tallied a match-high 21 assists.
Baldwin-Wallace dipped to 7-7 with the setback.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Hasewinkel (Sheridan, Ind.) led Hanover's attack in the four-set loss to Ohio Northern with 13 kills. Blevins set a career-high with nine kills and Regenauer chipped in seven.
Deaton fueled the offense with a match-high 23 assists.
Justus, Hartman and senior outside hitter Megan Keller (Cleves, Ohio) each reached double figures in digs to spark the Panthers' defense.
Justus posted a team-leading 24, while Hartman had 17 and Keller reached double-digits for the second time this season with 12.
The Hasewinkels, along with freshman outside hitter Molly Murphy (Hilliard, Ohio), each notched three block assists.
