Panthers second at Small College Classic's turn

Hanover College’s women’s golf team is sixth after the first 18 holes of the two-day Small College Classic. The opening round was held at Deer Creek Golf Course in Clayton, Ind.

Hanover totaled 342 strokes to land 27 shots behind Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) and event host DePauw University, which lead the 10-team field with 315.

Freshman Brittany Gingerich (Millersburg, Ind.) turned in a nine-over 81 on the 5,814-yard course to lead the Panthers with a 12th-place finish.

Junior Brooke McKay (Carmel, Ind.) is 24th after an opening-round 85. Senior Sloane Hamilton (Mason, Ohio) is just one stroke back in 27th place with an 86.

junior Shelby Schneider (Boonville, Ind.) and sophomore Brittany Mosteller (Indianapolis, Ind.) shared 37th place. Both golfers posted a 90.

DePauw’s Paige Gooch is the front-runner in the clubhouse after a one-under 71. Washington’s Connie Zhou is second among the 60 athletes, and four strokes off the pace, with a 75.
