Seniors Derrick Worden (Galveston, Ind.) and Dexter Britt (Louisville, Ky.) have been recognized as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s football players of the week for their efforts in Hanover’s 41-0 Homecoming victory against Bluffton University (Ohio), Oct. 19.
Worden, a cornerback, was named the Heartland Conference’s defensive player of the week after a pair of key plays in the Panthers’ triumph.
Worden forced a fumble and recovered the ball in the endzone for a second-quarter to give Hanover a 14-0 lead midway through the second period.
He intercepted a pass and returned the ball 34 yards to set up the Panthers’ final touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Worden also had two tackles in the contest.
Britt, a quarterback, was honored as the HCAC’s offensive player of the week after totaling 278 combined yards with three touchdowns while steering Hanover to its highest output of the season (426 yards).
Britt completed 17-of-24 passes for 232 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter. He also rushed 13 times for 46 yards with scoring runs of three and seven yards.
Hanover, now 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the HCAC, will travel to Defiance College (Ohio), Saturday, Oct. 26. The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. in Defiance, Ohio.
