Alvis OT goal clinches HCAC tourney spot

Hanover College's women’s soccer team was held scoreless in regulation, but only needed 95 seconds of overtime as a goal by Rachel Alvis (Cincinnati, Ohio) kept the Panthers perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 win on the road against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

While the Panthers out-shot Rose-Hulman 17-3 and enjoyed an 8-1 corner kick advantage, the Engineers' goalkeeper Lucinda Combs posted 12 saves to stymie the Hanover offensive attack in regulation.

Freshman forward Anna Cornacchione (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Panthers' offensive front with three shots in regulation.

Alvis and three other players each had two shots, with none finding the net, before the sophomore midfielder placed an unassisted shot into the upper right corner of the goal just 1:35 into the overtime period.

Hanover sophomore goalie Morgan Cole (Mason, Ohio) had two saves as the Panthers improve to 6-0-1 in league play and clinch a spot in the Heartland Conference tournament.

The Panthers' 13-1-2 overall record marks the best 16-match stretch in school history.

Rose-Hulman dipped to 9-4-4 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC with the loss.
