Hanover College’s women’s basketball team fell to the University of Mount Union (Ohio), 87-75, in the championship game of the M-Club Shootout in Alliance, Ohio.
Sophomore Stephanie Pahren (Metamora, Ind.) scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds, while junior forward Caitlin Bischoff (Atlanta, Ind.) added seven points and a team-high nine boards to lead the Panthers (1-3).
Annie Bova netted a game-high 21 points and Sarah Grippi tallied seven points and 14 rebounds to spark Mount Union.
Hanover jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the opening three and one-half minutes behind two baskets by freshman guard Jessie Davidson (Lexington, Ind.).
The Purple Raiders (4-0) whittled at the deficit for the remainder of the half and forged a 40-40 tie at the break.
Hanover scored the first nine points of the second half to surge ahead 49-40 just two minutes into the frame. The Panthers held a 63-57 lead with 10 minutes to play when Mount Union started its game-clinching rally.
The Purple Raiders used an 11-0 burst during a four-minute span to slingshot into a 68-63 lead.
Hanover got inside buckets from Davidson and junior guard Megan Caudill (Richmond, Ind.) to pull within 68-67 at the five-minute mark, but Mount Union closed with a 19-8 run to nail down its tourney title.
Senior forward Elyse Weddle (Bloomfield, Ind.) and sophomore guard Kelsey Block (Madison, Ind.) each netted nine points for the Panthers.
Davidson and junior guard Alicia Hopkins (Columbus, Ind.) were each named to the all-tournament team.
