Singles sweep leads to spring-opening win

Hanover College’s women’s tennis squad started its 2014 spring season with an 8-1 victory against Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) in Lakeland, Fla.

Hanover posted wins in all six singles matches and claimed two of the three double matches.

Sophomores Kelsey Jones (Hanover, Ind.) and Shelby Williamson (Ellettsville, Ind.), along with junior Sarah Love (Nashville, Ind.), each tallied shutouts to fuel the Panthers’ seventh consecutive win.

Jones defeated Concordia-Moorhead’s Morgan Sawatzke, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4. Love handled Celia Peloquin, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. Williamson blanked the Cobbers’ Rose Reinert, 8-0, at No. 5.

Senior Danielle Miller (Fairway, Kansas) and freshman Mackenzie Spicer (Indianapolis, Ind.) keyed the doubles effort with an 8-0 triumph against Sawatzke and Jade Haseltine at No. 1.

Hanover is 1-0 this spring and 14-3 overall for the 2013-14 season. Concordia-Moorhead dipped to 0-5 this spring.
