Hanover College’s softball team wrapped up its 10-game swing through the Sunshine State with games against Johnson State College (Vt.) and Augustana University (Ill.) in Dot Richardson Spring Games at the National Training Center Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.
Hanover raised its winning streak to four games with a 3-2 victory against Johnson State in the first tilt. The Panthers dropped a 7-3 decision to Augustana in the week-long trip’s finale.
Senior pitcher Ashley Cochran (New Albany, Ind.) worked five innings and tallied four strikeouts, while freshman Anna Phillippe (New Palestine, Ind.) sealed the victory with two innings of hitless relief.
Sophomore second baseman Lyndsea Burke (Modoc, Ind.) and senior shortstop Danielle Merrick (Eminence, Ind.) each had two singles to lead the Panthers at the plate.
Johnson State dipped to 0-3 with the setback.
Hanover (6-4) totaled eight hits, but committed four errors in the field in the loss to Augustana.
Junior hurler Leah Kemmerer (North Vernon, Ind.) allowed nine hits and four earned runs in five innings. Classmate Christina Davidson (Cincinnati, Ohio) worked the sixth inning, giving up a run on one hit.
Senior third baseman Shelby Overton (Greenwood, Ind.) and Merrick combined for four of the Panthers’ eight hits. Overton had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Merrick posted two singles and knocked in a run.
Augustana improved to 3-1 with the win.
