Hanover College’s men’s lacrosse squad dropped its home opener to Centre College (Ky.), 11-3, at L.S. Ayres Field.
Junior attacker Nick Hermes (Grayslake, Ill.) scored two goals to raise his team-leading total to 12 on the season. Senior attacker Chris Baney (Lexington, Ky.) also added a goal for Hanover, now 2-1 this season.
Centre led 2-0 after the first period. Hermes scored two and one-half minutes into the second frame to cut the deficit in half, but the Colonels followed with five straight goals to extend the margin to 7-1 at the intermission.
Centre (1-1) scored three times in the third period to build a 10-1 advantage.
Baney hit the back of the net five minutes into the fourth quarter and, after the Colonels scored with two minutes to play, Hermes added his second goal in the last minute for the final tally.
Hanover was outshot 51-40. Junior attacker Josh Green (Beaumaris, Australia) led the Panthers with 15 shots and Baney had 10.
Junior netminder Addison Sears (Louisville, Ky.) posted a season-high 18 saves, falling just short of his career high (20).
Baney led Hanover with five ground balls, while junior midfielder Tim Gruber (Cincinnati, Ohio) won 10-of-17 face-offs.
