Hanover College junior Leah Kemmerer (North Vernon, Ind.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s softball pitcher of the week for her performance in the opening week of the season.
Kemmerer posted a 4-1 record in five appearances during the Panthers’ 10-game swing through Florida. She set a school single-game record with 16 strikeouts in a 3-0 victory against Lyndon State (Vt.), Feb. 23. In that contest, she fanned the first 10 batters who came to the plate.
For the week, Kemmerer worked 23 innings in the circle, allowing 19 hits and five earned runs with 35 strikeouts.
Hanover, off to a 6-4 start this season, is slated to host Huntington University, Saturday, March 8, in the squad’s home opener. Weather permitting, the doubleheader will be played at Southwestern High School in Hanover, Ind.
