Junior first baseman Matt Brooks (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball hitter of the week.
Brooks batted .583 to lead Hanover to a 2-1 record last week. He was 7-for-12 with a double, three runs scored and two runs-batted-in.
He was 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and one RBI in an 8-5 loss at Indiana University Southeast, March 10. He went 3-for-5 with one run scored to lead the Panthers to a 7-3 triumph in the first game of a March 15 twinbill against DePauw University. He followed with a 2-for-4 effort in a 10-3 victory against DePauw in game two, including a run scored and one RBI.
Through 10 games, Brooks leads Hanover in batting this season with a .385 average. He also ranks first on the squad with 15 hits, five doubles, one triple and a home run. He has scored six times and driven six runs across the plate.
Hanover, 4-6 overall, will face Thomas More College (Ky.), Wednesday, March 19, in Crestview Hills, Ky. The Panthers are slated to open Heartland Conference play March 21-22 against Manchester University.
