The Hanover College men’s track & field team started the outdoor season in record-setting fashion, starting the meet by breaking a school record in the first contested event. The Panthers also collected two individual wins at the second-annual coed HC-FC Rivalry relays meet held at Franklin College.
The 4 x 100-meter relay squad of Anthony Pizzo (Bloomington, Ind.), Enrico Franchini (Sao Paolo, Brazil), Tyler Arceneaux (Akron, Ind.) and Torrey Gardiner (Lafayette, La.) started the meet with a win, running 43.19 to claim the event by more than half a second. The time bests the previous record of 43.25 set in 2013.
Gardiner followed this with an individual victory in the 100-meter dash, running 11.45. Gardiner placed fourth in the javelin throw (39.06-meters).
Franchini placed third, running 11.99.
The duo teamed with Arceneaux and junior 400-meter runner Jack Schoening (Noblesville, Ind.) to place second in the 800-meter sprint medley relay, running 1:40.28.
Senior Al Moreland (Lawton, Mich.) won the hammer toss with a 42.98 meter toss. This moves him into fifth all-time at Hanover. Moreland also placed second in the discus throw (34.45-meters) and third in the javelin throw (39.21-meters).
