Hanover third in Big Four Classic at Crooked Stick

Four athletes in the top 14 helped propel Hanover College’s men’s golf team to a third-place finish in the 31st-annual Big Four Classic at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Hanover totaled 311 strokes to land behind Butler University (301) and DePauw University (306). Wabash College was fourth with 324.

Senior Robert Bader (Louisville, Ky.) finished third overall with a two-over-par 74. He was just one stroke out of first place.

Classmate Terry Smith (Peru, Ind.) was sixth, just two shots behind Bader with a 76. Freshman Johnny Vidal (Harrison, Ohio) posted a 79 on the 6,820-yard course and finished 11th. Junior Patric Geary (Clarksville, Ind.) was 14th after firing an 82.

Butler’s Anderson Eiler was the event’s medalist. Eiler shot a one-over 73, then defeated DePauw’s Charlie Castino with a par on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.
