Hanover College’s men’s lacrosse squad lost to Transylvania University (Ky.), 8-7, on a goal in the opening minute of overtime in a non-conference battle in Lexington, Ky.
Junior attacker Josh Green (Beaumaris, Australia) netted three goals to set a Hanover single-season scoring mark. The trio of goals pushed Green’s season total to 38, surpassing the mark of 36 set by junior attacker Nick Hermes (Grayslake, Ill.) this season.
Hanover and Transylvania were never separated by more than one goal in a nip-and-tuck clash. Despite just 15 combined goals, the teams were tied seven times and exchanged the lead four times.
The Panthers, now 9-4 this season, held a 7-6 lead with nearly 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter after a goal by senior attacker Chris Baney (Lexington, Ky.).
The Pioneers (4-7) scored the tying goal with 4:39 left in regulation, then snatched the victory on a goal by Sam Browning 1:01 into the extra session.
Junior midfielder Luke Karnick (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored two goals and senior defender Sam Kampert (Noblesville, Ind.) added his first goal of the season (and second career goal) to support Hanover’s attack.
Junior goalie Addison Sears (Louisville, Ky.) totaled a career-high 24 saves in 61 minutes in the Panthers' net.
Transylvania outshot Hanover, 52-37, including a 28-16 margin in the first 30 minutes of action.
