Juniors Josh Green (Beaumaris, Australia) and Luke Karnick (Indianapolis, Ind.) netted four goals apiece, but Hanover College’s men’s lacrosse team suffered a 15-12 setback against Augustana College (Ill.). The Midwest Lacrosse Conference tilt was played in Rock Island, Ill.
Hanover trailed just 5-4 after the opening period. Augustana, however, outscored the Panthers 6-1 in the second frame and led 11-5 at the break. The Vikings would not allow Hanover within three goals until the closing minutes.
With his four goals, Green became the first Hanover player to score more than 40 goals in a season (42).
Junior attacker Nick Hermes (Grayslake, Ill.) added three goals and three assists. Senior Derek Coe (Lake Orion, Mich.) also dished out three assists for the Panthers, now 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the MLC.
Augustana (8-3; 5-1 MLC) outshot Hanover 55-36, including an 18-8 margin in the opening quarter. Green and Karnick each fired a team-high 11 attempts at the net.
Junior goalies Addison Sears (Louisville, Ky.) and Austin Czisny (Gurnee, Ill.) each played 30 minutes in Hanover’s net.
Sears surrendered 14 goals and tallied 12 saves. Czisny had three saves and allowed one goal.
Junior midfielder Tim Gruber (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned 16-of-28 face-offs. He also collected a match-leading eight ground balls.
