Golfers set record on way to Defiance title

The Hanover College men’s golf team set a school 36-hole record to capture the team championship at the Defiance College (Ohio) Invitational. The two-day tournament was held at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, Ohio.

Hanover posted a two-round total of 592 (295-297) to break the school mark by four strokes. The Panthers combined for a then-record 596 (297-299) just one week ago in a second-place finish in the Hanover Invitational at Shadowood Golf Course.

Senior Robert Bader (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman P.J. Greene (Mason, Ohio) led Hanover’s record charge at Defiance.

Bader earned medalist honors after posting an even-par 70 in the closing round. He finished with a 141 (71-70) to win by two strokes and, in addition, miss tying the Panthers’ individual 36-hole mark by one stroke.

Greene earned a third-place finish after turning in a 147 (73-74) on the 6,130-yard course.

Freshman Johnny Vidal (Harrison, Ohio) tied for seventh with a 151 (76-75) and junior Patric Geary (Clarksville, Ind.) fired a 154 (76-78) to end up in the 13th position.

Transylvania University (Ky.) was second with 596 (300-396). The College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) finished third among nine teams with 608 (306-302).

Transylvania’s Clay Hinton finished second overall with a 143 (70-73).
