Hanover College’s men’s tennis team used hard-fought victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles to edge Manchester University, 5-4, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match in North Manchester, Ind.
Hanover, now 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the HCAC, opened with wins in two of the three doubles matches.
Junior Brian Clark (Greenfield, Ind.) and sophomore Joshua Ruse (Indianapolis, Ind.) held off Manchester's Phil Truitt and Alex Winger, 9-8, at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Jordan Myers (Indianapolis, Ind.), together with sophomore Reid Clark (Greenfield, Ind.), beat Stratton Smith and Miro Arguijo III, 8-3, at No. 1.
The Panthers and Spartans split the six singles matches.
Junior Andrew Laubner (Elkhart, Ind.) battled to a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Matt Buncich at No. 5 singles to give Hanover its decisive match.
Brian Clark defeated Truitt, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Myers handled Winger 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
Manchester fell to 1-13 overall and 1-7 in the Heartland Conference.
