Junior Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas) secured two top-five finishes, while senior Janet Schnurr (Lexington, Ky.) placed third in the javelin throw to lead several Hanover College women’s track & field team members at the Ron Althoff Invitational. The meet, a NCAA Division III final qualifying meet, was held in Delaware, Ohio.
Chambers ran a season-best 12.46 seconds to place fourth in the 100-meter dash. She also jumped 5.45 meters to place second in the long jump. Chambers is currently ranked 14th nationally in the event.
Schnurr enjoyed a strong day in the javelin, securing third on her second throw of finals with a 31.69-meter toss. She sits just .03 meters behind Panther record holder Keeley McCabe’s 2003 toss of 32.80 meters. She will have one final attempt May 16 at the Louisville (Ky.) Twilight.
Savannah Hubbard (Madison, Ind.) completed the Hanover results, placing eighth in the first known heptathlon in college history. The freshman totaled 1,551 points in the first day of competition that includes the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash. She closed the competition on the second day with 3,004 total points after high scores in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
