Junior Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas) placed 15th in the long jump in her first appearance at the NCAA III men's and women's track & field championship. The meet is being held May 22-24 in Delaware, Ohio.
After a foul on her first attempt, Chambers sailed 5.34 meters (17-feet, 6.25-inches) on her second effort to secure the finish among 22 athletes in the event. She had a leap of 5.27 meters on her third and final attempt.
Amhert College (Mass.) senior Naomi Bates earned first place in the long jump with a 6.02-meter leap (19-feet, nine-inches). The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Lexier Sondgeroth was second with 5.81 meters.
Chambers is just the second athlete in Hanover history to earn a spot in the NCAA meet. Former standout Leah Peelman was a national qualifier in the 5,000 meters in 2005 and a three-time qualifier in the 10,000 meters (2004-2006).
