Lacrosse teams join new regional conference

Hanover College’s men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will compete in the newly formed Ohio River Lacrosse Conference when action begins in the spring of 2015. The league was created through a single-sport alignment between the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).

Four members of the Heartland Conference and three from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference will create the men’s league’s seven-team conference. Five teams from both the HCAC and PAC form the women’s 10-team membership.

The squads will complete a full round-robin schedule during the 2015 season. A post-season tournament, with an automatic berth in the NCAA tourney at stake, will follow the regular season.

"We are very excited to join with our Heartland Conference colleagues in the creation of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences,” said PAC Commissioner Joe Onderko. ”Joining forces with the HCAC will strengthen existing lacrosse programs by giving us earlier automatic bid access to NCAA championships, while also encouraging the growth of the sport across the region.”

Hanover's men's squad, which has been a member of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference since the program’s birth in 2011, will join Defiance College (Ohio), College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) and Transylvania University (Ky.) as Heartland Conference teams in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference.

Bethany College (W.Va.), Saint Vincent College (Pa.) and Thiel College (Pa.) represent the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Hanover’s women’s program, set to launch its first season in 2015, will combine with Defiance, Mount St. Joseph, Transylvania and Franklin College as half the ORLC’s membership.

Washington and Jefferson College (Pa.), Waynesburg College (Pa.), Thomas More College (Ky.), Saint Vincent and Thiel fill the league’s 10-team partnership.
