August brings start of fall seasons

The end of August will mark the beginning of the fall seasons for Hanover College’s athletic teams. The volleyball, women’s soccer and women’s golf squads will each start their seasons Friday, August 29.

Hanover’s volleyball team will open its 2014 campaign against Webster University (Mo.) in St. Louis, Mo.

The Panthers will remain in the Show Me State for four matches as part of the Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) Labor Day Classic. Hanover will face Buena Vista University (Iowa) and Fontbonne University (Mo.), Saturday, Aug. 30. The squad will meet Nebraska Wesleyan University and host Washington, Sunday, Aug. 31.

The volleyball program, 16-16 last season, will host the Hanover Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 5-6, in Collier Arena.

Hanover’s women’s soccer team, coming off a record-setting 18-2-2 season and the squad’s second appearance in the NCAA III tournament, will launch its 2014 season Friday, Aug. 29, against Piedmont College (Ga.) in Maryville, Tenn. The Panthers will follow with a clash against host Maryville College (Tenn.), Saturday, Aug. 30.

The team’s home debut will be Saturday, Sept. 6, against Spalding University (Ky.).

After a 17th-place finish in the NCAA III championship last spring, Hanover’s women’s golf squad will open its fall season Aug. 29 at the Transylvania University (Ky.) Fall Invitational in Lexington, Ky.

The Panthers will cap the weekend at the Anderson University Fall Invitational Aug. 30-31 in Anderson, Ind., then host the annual Hanover Invitational Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 6-7, at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.

Hanover’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will hit the turf Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Washington University (Mo.) Gabby Reuveni Early Bird Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.

The squads will follow with the annual Madison Kiwanis Invitational on campus Sept. 6.

Hanover’s men’s soccer team will take the pitch for the first time Saturday, Aug. 30, against Berry College (Ga.) in Lexington, Ky. The Panthers, 10-8-2 last season, will remain in Lexington, Sunday, Aug. 31, to face Berea College (Ky.).

The squad’s home opener is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 2, against Spalding.

Hanover’s men’s golf squad will play its first match of the fall, Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Centre College (Ky.) Jim English Invitational in Danville, Ky.

Hanover’s football team will kick off its campaign Saturday, Sept. 6, on the road in a night game against Centre in Danville, Ky.

The Panthers will debut the program's renovated stadium, and start a string of three straight home contests, Saturday, Sept. 13 against Thomas More College (Ky.).
