The Hanover College football team has been selected to finish third in the battle for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s 2014 championship.
The Panthers, under third-year head coach Steve Baudendistel, tallied 50 points in a preseason polling of the HCAC’s nine head coaches.
Hanover was 5-5 overall one year ago. The Panthers finished fourth in the Heartland Conference standings with a 5-3 record.
Franklin College recorded seven of the nine available first-place votes and tallied 79 points to earn the top spot in the coaches' poll. The College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) placed second in the poll with 65 points, including two first-place votes.
Hanover will kick off its 2014 campaign Saturday, Sept. 6, on the road against Centre College (Ky.) in Danville, Ky. The contest will start at 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers’ home debut will be Sept. 13 against Thomas More College (Ky.). The contest will mark the first of three consecutive home games for the squad.
Hanover’s first Heartland Conference game will be Sept. 20 at home against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Techniology. The outing, part of the Panthers' Homecoming festivities, will begin at 2:30 p.m.
