After a break-out season last fall, Hanover College's men's soccer team has been selected to finish second in the race for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's title in 2014.
Hanover, under second-year head coach Matt Wilkerson, totaled 77 points in a polling of the Heartland Conference's coaches. The Panthers also received one first-place vote.
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded 94 points and seven of the first-place votes to stake claim to the top spot. Transylvania University (Ky.) earned 75 points to place third and Anderson University was fourth with 71 points and a first-place nod.
Hanover set a school single-season record with 10 wins one year ago. The Panthers finished 10-8-2 overall, including a school-best six-match unbeaten streak.
Hanover kicks off its season Saturday, Aug. 30, against Berry College (Ga.) in Lexington, Ky. The Panthers' home-opener will be played Tuesday, Sept. 2, against Spalding University (Ky.).
Heartland Conference action begins Saturday, Oct. 4, with a home clash against Bluffton University (Ohio).
