Capital stymies Hanover bats in opener
Hanover College's softball team opened its 2009 campaign with a 6-0 loss to Capital University (Ohio). The contest was held Monday, Feb. 23, as part of the NTC Challenge in Clermont, Fla.
Capital junior pitcher Brittany Stefano tossed a complete-game one-hitter to power the Crusaders. Hanover senior infielder Halie Norton (Reading, Ohio) hit a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to break up Stefano's bid for a no-hitter.
Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Hanner (Bloomingdale, Ind.) worked a seven-inning, complete-game for Hanover. Hanner (0-1) scattered six runs on eight hits. She tallied six strikeouts and issued just one walk.
Stefano fanned 11 and allowed one base on balls in seven innings for Capital (1-0).
The Crusaders plated two runs in the first inning and led 3-0 after the fourth inning. Despite not having a hit, Hanover trailed only 3-0 entering the seventh inning when Capital put three more runs on the scoreboard.
