Hanover vs. Davenport, Feb. 23

Third-inning explosion dumps Hanover
Davenport University (Mich.) used an 11-run third inning to help knock off Hanover College's softball team, 15-6, in the NTC Challenge. The game was held Monday, Feb. 23, in Clermont, Fla.

Hanover led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. Davenport collected 10 hits in the decisive 11-run inning, including seven hits with two outs.

The Panthers' offense totaled eight hits in the contest. Junior catcher Megan Downey (Kokomo, Ind.) and freshman second baseman Brittany Batson (Wilmington, Ohio) had two hits apiece to lead the effort. Downey had a two-run double in the third inning and knocked in a run in the fourth inning. She also had a stolen base. Batson had two singles and scored a run in the fifth inning.

Freshman outfielder Taylor Ricke (New Albany, Ind.) had a double, two RBI and scored twice for Hanover (0-2). Freshman outfielder Rachel Miller (Morgantown, Ind.) reached base twice and scored a pair of runs.

Junior pitcher Emily Merrill (Milton, Ky.) recorded the loss after working two and two-thirds innings for Hanover. Merrill (0-1) surrendered 13 hits and 12 runs with a strikeout and two walks.

Freshman Tori Harmon (North Crawfordsville, Ind.) tossed one and one-third innings of relief. She gave up three runs on a trio of hits and posted one strikeout.

Davenport (1-1) had five players with two or more hits. Freshman infielder Morgan Greenfield was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Junior catcher Haley Stehouwer had two hits, including a triple, with three runs scored and two runs-batted-in.
