Hanover ends season with loss at Mount St. Joseph
Hanover College's softball squad capped its 2009 season with a 9-1 loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio). The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game was played Wednesday, April 29, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Hanover grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Lauren Kreinest (Harrison, Ohio) hit a one-out single. She later scored on a two-out double by freshman catcher Blaki Nading (North Vernon, Ind.).

Mount St. Joseph countered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Lions (13-23; 8-8 HCAC) used four hits and two Hanover miscues to plate the runs. Freshman third baseman Kathleen Horn fueled the inning with a two-run home run. The dinger was her third of the twinbill.

Mount St. Joseph totaled four more hits and scored a pair of runs in the second inning to push the cushion to 7-1. The Lions also added runs in the third and fifth innings for the final margin.

Hanover totaled only four hits off Mount St. Joseph sophomore pitcher Katie Cohill. Senior first baseman Halie Norton (Reading, Ohio) had a single in her final collegiate outing. Freshman second baseman Helena Ciminowasielewski (Moores Hill, Ind.) also added a base hit for the Panthers (5-28; 2-14 HCAC).

Junior hurler Emily Merrill (Milton, Ky.) was pinned with the loss despite pitching just one inning for Hanover. Merrill (3-16) surrendered four hits and five runs.

Freshman Megan Priest (Indianapolis, Ind.) tossed the final three and two-thirds innings. She allowed 10 hits and four runs in her first collegiate pitching outing.
