Cochard places 155th in NCAA championship
Senior Emily Cochard (Kendallville, Ind.) placed 155th out of 280 runners at the NCAA III national cross country championships. The 2007 NCAA finale was held Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Olaf College (Minn.) in Northfield, Minn.

Cochard posted a time of 23:19 on the six-kilometer course. She finished just more than 2.5 minutes behind Willamette University's Sarah Zerzan, who won the individual title in 20:54.

Amherst College (Mass.) won the women's team championship with 120 points. The Lady Jeffs placed seven runners in the top 50 spots, including three in the top 21 positions.

Cochard is the third Hanover runner to compete in the national meet. She earned a berth in the championship with a 22nd-place finish in the Great Lakes Regional, Saturday, Nov. 10, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She posted a time of 22:33.65 in qualifying event.

During the 2007 season, Cochard earned all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors with a third-place finish in the league's championship race. She covered the six–kilometers in 23:25.

She earlier earned the top spot among 134 runners in the "Blue Race" at the Louisville Classic, Sept. 29, and also won the Madison Kiwanis Invitational, Sept, 8. She placed 25th out of 366 runners at the Disney Classic, Oct. 6, in Orlando, Fla., and was fourth overall at the University of the South Invitational, Sept. 1, in Sewanee, Tenn.

Former Hanover standout Leah Peelman earned all-American honors with a seventh-place finish in 2005. She was 71st overall in the 2004 NCAA meet.

Erin Matson was the first Hanover runner to compete in the national finale. Matson finished 138th in the 2001 meet.

In order to be eligible to participate in the 2007 NCAA championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions.

The field includes 16 teams which automatically qualified with first or second-place finishes in each of the eight regional finals. An additional 16 teams were at-large selections. The first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, 56 runners in all, also were selected to participate in the championship.


Harriers end season in Great Lakes Regional
The Hanover College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA III Great Lakes Regionals, Saturday, Nov. 10, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Hanover's women's team finished 19th among the 31 teams in the six-kilometer event.

Senior Emily Cochard (Kendallville, Ind.) placed 22nd out of 231 runners to pace the Panthers. Cochard posted a time of 22:33.65. Freshman Shawna McLetchie (Lexington, Ky) was 101st in 24:30.60. Sophomore Angie Sells (Pekin, Ind.) placed 124th in 24:55.75.

Hanover's men's squad was 33rd out of 34 teams in the eight-kilometer regional.

Junior Geoff Darmstaedter (DesPeres, Mo.) placed 203rd among 245 runners with a time of 29:25.20. Freshman Adam Kremer (Greenwood, Ind.) was 207th in 29:33.15.

Calvin College (Mich.) captured both the men's and women's regional championships. The Knights totaled 27 points in the men's meet and were led by Jed Christiansen, who won the race in 24:51.95.

Calvin's women's team tallied 46 points. Case Western Reserve's Esther Erb earned the top spot in the women's event with a time of 21:13.15.

Cochard leads harriers in HCAC championships
Hanover College's men's and women's cross country squads hosted the 2007 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, Saturday, Oct. 27, at the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.

Senior Emily Cochard (Kendallville, Ind.) earned all-conference honors and placed third overall to lead Hanover's women's team to a fifth-place finish. Cochard turned in a time of 23:25 on the six-kilometer course.

Anderson University earned its sixth straight HCAC team title with four runners in the top 10 and 31 total points. The Ravens' Gwen Kemple won the race in 21:52 to mark the second-fastest finish in league history.

Hanover's men's squad finished sixth in the conference's season finale. Sophomore Justin Guilkey (Fort Thomas, Ky.) was 46th with a time of 29:52. Junior Geoff Darmstaedter (DesPeres, Mo.) was a stride behind in 47th place in 29:53.

Anderson claimed its ninth consecutive men's league crown. The Ravens posted 30 points and placed four runners in the top seven spots. Sean Hudson led the group, winning the eight-kilometer race in 26:08.
