Anderson Invitational, Sept. 5-6
Panthers fifth at Anderson; Burpo sets 36-hole mark
Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind.) set a school 36-hole record to lead the Hanover College women's golf squad to a fifth-place finish at the Anderson University Invitational. The two-day tournament was played Sept. 5-6 at Killbuck Golf Course in Anderson, Ind.
Hanover totaled 661 strokes to earn the fifth slot in a nine-team field. The Panthers' effort includes a school 18-hole record 319 in the second round.
Burpo led the charge with a second-place finish among 44 golfers in the tournament. She fired a Hanover 36-hole-record 155, including a tourney-low 75 on the second day.
Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind.) was 11th overall with a 162 (86-76). Sophomore Natosha Wood (Columbia City, Ind.) earned a top-20 finish. She placed 19th with a 171 (89-82).
DePauw University won the team title with 635 strokes (322-313). Olivet College (Mich.) was second with a 643 (327-316).
Olivet's Megan Rimmel posted back-to-back 76s to earn individual medalist honors with a 152.
Golfers sixth after opening round at Anderson
Hanover College's women's golf team sits in sixth place after the first round of the Anderson University Invitational. The 36-hole tournament is being played Sept. 5-6 at the Killbuck Golf Course in Anderson, Ind.
Hanover totaled 342 strokes and is 20 strokes behind event-leading DePauw University (322). Franklin College is second overall with 324 strokes. Manchester College and Olivet College (Mich.), the defending tournament champions, are tied in the third slot with 327 strokes.
Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind.) is among the top three players on the leaderboard. She fired an opening-round 80 to lead Hanover.
Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind.) turned in an 86 in her first collegiate round for the Panthers. Sophomore Paige Schroeder (Jasper, Ind.) and freshman Bridget Neal (Fort Thomas, Ky.) each shot an 88 in the first round.
