Small College Classic, Sept. 26-27
Hanover finishes eighth at Small College Classic
Hanover College's women's golf team placed eighth out of 16 schools at DePauw University's Small College Classic. The 36-hole tournament was played Sept. 26-27 at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind.
Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind.) finished 25th out of 99 golfers to lead Hanover's effort. Burpo fired a 169 (80-89) on the par-71, 6,203-yard course.
Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind.) shot a 179 (92-87) to finish 45th overall. Classmate Bridget Neal (Fort Thomas, Ky.) was 48th with a 180 (89-91). Sophomore Natosha Wood (Columbia City, Ind.) rounded out Hanover's scoring with a 186 (87-99) for 58th place.
Hanover totaled 711 strokes (348-363) to tie Carthage College (Wis.) for the eighth slot in the tourney. The teams finished just 10 strokes behind Wittenburg University (Ohio), which tallied a 701 (346-355) to place seventh in the field.
Saint Mary's College placed four golfers in the top 10 spots to earn the team championship with 635 strokes (315-320). The Belles' Martyna Mierzwa was the event's individual medalist with a 154 (76-78).
