Panthers move up to fourth in Hanover Invitational
The Hanover College women's golf team placed fourth among nine teams in the 2009 Hanover Invitational Tournament. The two-day event wrapped up Sunday, Sept. 13, with 18 holes at the Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour, Ind.
Hanover totaled 340 strokes in the second round of the tourney to move into the fourth slot with a combined 684. The Panthers had been sixth in the field after an opening round 344.
Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind.) led Hanover with a fifth-place finish. Roberts fired a 161, including a team-best 79 in the second round.
Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind.) finished 12th overall with a 168 (87-81). Freshman Bridget Neal (Fort Thomas, Ky.) was 16th after totaling a 173 (84-89) for the Panthers.
Marian University captured the team championship with a 635 (323-312). Angela Gauck led the Knights with a 149 (73-76) to earn medalist honors.
Centre College (Ky.) finished second as a team with a 665 (320-345). Transylvania University (Ky.) placed third with 671 strokes (328-343).

Panthers sixth midway through Hanover Invitational
The Hanover College women's golf squad sits in sixth place midway through the 36-hole Hanover Invitational. The opening round was played Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Sunrise Falls Golf Course in Madison, Ind.
Hanover totaled 344 strokes and is 24 shots behind front-running Centre College (Ky.), which opened with a 320. Marian University is second among the nine schools in the field with 323 strokes. Transylvania University (Ky.) tallied a 328 and ranks third.
Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind.) posted an 82 (40-42) on the par-72, 5,871-yard course to lead Hanover. Roberts is in 10th place out of 55 golfers. Freshman Bridget Neal (Fort Thomas, Ky.) totaled an 84 (43-41) for 14th place. Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind.) is 18th overall with an 87 (42-45) in the opening round.
Transylvania's Megan Foley is the leader at the tournament's halfway point. Foley fired a career-best one-under-par 71 (36-35). Marian's Angela Gauck trails by two strokes after opening with a one-over-par 73 (37-36).
