Tennis trio honored by Heartland Conference
Women's tennis players Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.), Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) and Akami Marquis (Burlington, Ky.) have received honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Gullett and Parry-Lemon were each named to the league's all-conference team. Marquis earned a position on the HCAC's sportsmanship team.
Gullett, a sophomore, was named to the all-conference squad for the first time in her collegiate career. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, she posted a 6-6 record in dual matches during the season.
Parry-Lemon, a junior, had a 7-4 record in 11 matches in the No. 2 singles slot. A three-time all-conference honoree, she also captured first-place at No. 2 singles at the conference's late-season flighted tournament.
Gullett and Parry-Lemon combined for a 5-6 record as the Panthers' No. 1 doubles team.
Marquis, a senior, had a 5-5 record as Hanover's No. 6 player.
Hanover finished the season with a 4-8 record. The Panthers placed fifth in the Heartland Conference with a 3-4 mark.
Fall season ends with loss to Bellarmine
The Hanover College women's tennis team capped its season with an 8-1 loss to Bellarmine University (Ky.). The match was played Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Varsity Courts.
Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) posted the Panthers' lone triumph in the match. In a battle which lasted more than two hours, Gullett rallied to outlast the Knights' Sarah Roebker 5-7, 6-3, (10-5), at No. 1 singles.
The outing was the collegiate finale for Hanover seniors Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.), Courtney Hyde (Prospect, Ky.) and Akami Marquis (Burlington, Ky.).
Playing in the No. 3 singles slot, Ernstberger dropped a 6-0, 6-0, decision to Bellarmine's Emily Roebker. Marquis fell to the Knights' Hannah-Rose Hagan, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5.
Ernstberger and Hyde paired for an 8-0 loss to Emily Roebker and Becca Porter at No. 2 doubles.
Marquis and sophomore Jennifer Hurst (Pekin, Ind.) dropped a 9-7 decision to Kaitlyn Reid and Katherine Miller at No. 3 doubles.
Hanover closed its season with a 4-8 record. The Panthers placed fifth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-4 mark.

Parry-Lemon leads Hanover in HCAC flighted tourney
Junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) captured the No. 2 singles title to lead the Hanover College women's tennis team at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's flighted tournament. The event was held Oct. 10-11 at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
Parry-Lemon reeled off three straight victories to earn the crown in the No. 2 singles flight. She opened with a 6-0, 6-0, win against Defiance College's Chelsea French and handled Franklin College's Heather Pasek, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Parry-Lemon, who also won a singles title in the 2008 event, outlasted the College of Mount St. Joseph's Laura Robinson, 7-5, 3-6, (7) in the flight's finale.
Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) Gullett earned a third-place finish for Hanover in the No. 1 singles flight. She opened the tourney with a 6-0, 6-4, win against Franklin's Kayli Schafer. She dropped a 6-2, 6-2, decision to Transylvania University's Kelsey Fulkerson in the semifinals, but rebounded for a 9-7 win against Mount St. Joseph's Whitney Thomas in the third-place match.
Hanover, which totaled 23 points in the tournament, also earned third-place points in the No. 2 doubles flight. The Panthers' duo of seniors Courtney Hyde (Prosspect, Ky.) and Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) posted wins in two of three doubles matches.
Ernstberger and Hyde blanked Manchester College's Hannah Glackman and Alyssa Dibley, 8-0, in the pair's first match. They couple fell to Franklin's Pasek and Chelsy Gott in the second match, but rallied for an 8-6 win against Anderson University's Nicole Newell and Sarah Buck in the battle for third place.
Transylvania won titles at Nos. 5-6 singles and posted a tournament-high 41 points. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was second with 38 points, while Anderson finished third with 37 points.

Marian snaps Hanover's two-match streak
Hanover College's women's tennis squad snapped a two-match winning streak with a 7-2 loss to Marian University, Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Varsity Courts.
Hanover won two of the six singles matches. Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Kim Fong (Nashville, Ind.) recorded victories for the Panthers (4-4).
Gullett evened her singles' record at 4-4 with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), triumph against the Knights' Dana Reynolds at No. 1.
Fong improved to 6-2 this season with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7, win against Marian's Alyssa Richards at No. 5 singles.
Marian defeated Hanover in all three of the doubles battles.
Gullett and junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) fell to Reynolds and Alyson O'Conner, 8-5, at No. 1.
Seniors Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) and Courtney Hyde (Propect, Ky.) lost to the Knights' Maria Berry and Tiffany Schendel, 8-5, at No. 2.

Panthers defeat Manchester in league tussle
The Hanover College women's tennis team notched its third consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory with a 9-0 triumph against Manchester College, Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Varsity Courts.
Seniors Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) and Akami Marquis (Burlington, Ky.), junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) and freshman Kim Fong (Nashville, Ind.) each improved their singles' records to 5-2 on the season with wins.
Parry-Lemon defeated Manchester's Kessie Karg, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2. Ernstberger handled Emily Vail, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3. Fong posted a 6-1,6-2 victory against Liz Strahammer at No. 5. Marquis beat the Spartans' Hannah Glackman, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
Sophomore Heather Washburn (Greenwood, Ind.) rallied to edge the Spartans' Alyssa Dibley, 4-6, 6-2 (10-7) at No. 4.
Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) completed the singles' sweep with a 6-1, 6-2, win against April Erxleben at No. 1.
Hanover, now 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference, opened the squad's win with victories in all three doubles matches.
Freshman Paige Spaulding (Louisville, Ky.) and Fong sparked the doubles sweep with a 9-8 (7-1) win against Manchester's Rachael Larson and Strahammer at No. 3.
Manchester fell to 0-6 overall on the season with the setback. The Spartans are 0-5 in the HCAC.

Hanover shuts out Defiance in HCAC tilt
Hanover College's women's tennis team dropped just three sets in a 9-0 victory against Defiance College (Ohio). The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match was played Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Varsity Courts.
Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) and junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) combined for three victories to lead Hanover's charge.
Gullett handled Defiance's Chelsea French, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Parry-Lemon defeated Samantha Stevens, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
The duo also combined for an 8-0 victory against French and Stevens in the foursome's clash at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) and freshman Kim Fong (Nashville, Ind.) each added straight-set victories for the Panthers.
Ernstberger posted a 6-0, 6-0, win against the Yellow Jackets' Jerika Hennes at No. 3. Fong notched a 6-0, 6-0, victory against Kaitlyn Sandercock at No. 5.
Fong also paired with freshman Paige Spaulding (Louisville, Ky.) for an 8-0 win against Katie Carunchia and Kellie Raypole at No. 3 doubles.
With the triumph, Hanover evened its record at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. Defiance, meanwhile, dipped to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the HCAC.

Brescia handles Panthers to stay undefeated
The Brescia University (Ky.) women's tennis squad pushed its record to 9-0 with an eight-match victory against Hanover College, Friday, Sept. 18, at the Varsity Courts.
Brescia posted victories in all three doubles matches to open the clash. The Bearcats then won five of six singles matches to nail down the program's third win against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams this season.
Brescia had previously defeated Franklin College (7-2) and Transylvania University (6-3) this season.
Senior Akami Marquis (Burlington, Ky.) earned Hanover's sole victory in the match. Marquis outlasted Brescia's Kayla White, 4-6,6-4,10-6, in a battle at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Kim Fong (Nashville, Ind.) dropped a three-set decision at No. 5 singles for the Panthers (2-3). Fong fell to the Bearcats' Ashley Lynch, 6-7 (3-7),6-2,10-3.

Panthers drop HCAC opener at Transy
Hanover College's defense of its 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title took an early-season hit. The Panthers were defeated, 8-1, by Transylvania University (Ky.) in the opening match of the 2009 HCAC slate.
Transylvania (1-2; 1-0 HCAC) swept all three doubles matches then won five of the six singles matches to lock up the victory.
Senior Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) recorded Hanover's lone win in the match. Ernstberger improved to 2-0 at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph against Transylvania's Stephanie Townsend.
The tightest battle of the match came at No. 1 doubles. The Pioneers' Kelsey Fulkerson and Katie Boone edged Hanover junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) and sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.), 9-8 (7-3).
The setback evened the Panthers' overall season record at 1-1.

Hanover blanks Thomas More to start season
Hanover College's women's tennis team posted a 9-0 shutout against Thomas More College (Ky.) to begin its 2009 campaign.
The Panthers opened the battle with victories in all three double matches, then collected wins in each of the six singles matches to notch the shutout.
Sophomore Allie Gullett (Lexington, Ky.) and junior Angela Parry-Lemon (Columbia City, Ind.) combined for three victories to spur the Panthers' effort.
Gullett earned a 6-1, 6-3, triumph at No. 1 singles against Thomas More's Lauren Race. Parry-Lemon, a two-time all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection, posted a 6-1, 6-1, win against the Saints' Lindsey Burns at No. 2.
Gullett and Parry-Lemon paired for an 8-5 victory against Race and Burns at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Aly Ernstberger (New Albany, Ind.) opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Brittney Knapp at No. 3. She also teamed with senior Courtney Hyde (Goshen, Ky.) for an 8-1 win against the Saints' Knapp and Ashley York at No. 2 doubles.
