Danny Allen '78 was not only a great football player and coach, but a tremendous person. I was a junior at Hanover when Dan arrived in the fall of 1974 and grew to know him as a team mate, coaching colleague, and most of all a good friend. Dan was a tireless worker and learned the game on both sides of the football. His greatest asset was his passion for the players and coaches and their families. He learned from some of the best coaches of our time as well as from his players, and that was what made him great.
He grew up in Cincinnati, OH and played at Purcell HS, then Coach Rick Carter brought him to Hanover where he was a 4 year letter winner and won numerous awards including MVP. He and I were re-united at the University of Dayton where Dan was a defensive assistant, then a few years later he joined our staff at the College of the Holy Cross where he blossomed into one of the finest coaches in the country. He was National 1AA Coach of the year as the Head Coach at Boston University and ended his career as the head coach at Holy Cross when his brilliant career was cut short when he contracted Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. The Dan Allen Foundation continues today and strives to help families affected by loss awarding scholarships and various forms of aid to those in need – touching many lives the way that Dan did during his time with us.
We ask that you honor Dan’s legacy at Hanover by supporting the Live our Loyalty Campaign with your generosity in his name. Thank you for your support!
